Returns and Refunds Policy — Strathdon Press
Last updated: July 2026— Strathdon Manor Media (Pty) Ltd
Thank you for shopping with Strathdon Press. This policy explains your rights and our process for returns, exchanges, and refunds, for both physical and digital titles.
1. Physical Books
1.1 Cooling-off cancellation
If you are a consumer as defined under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, you may cancel an order placed through this website within 7 (seven) calendar days of receiving the Goods, without reason or penalty, other than the direct cost of returning the Goods.
1.2 Return conditions
- The book must be unused and in its original condition and packaging.
- Books marked as made-to-order, personalised, or signed at your request cannot be returned unless faulty.
- Sale or clearance-priced titles are final sale, except where faulty.
1.3 Faulty or damaged books
If a book arrives damaged, defective, or is not what you ordered, you are entitled under the Consumer Protection Act to a repair, replacement, or refund, at your choice, and we will additionally cover the cost of return shipping in that case. Contact us within a reasonable time of receiving the item, with your order number and a photo of the issue where possible.
1.4 Returning a book
Contact us at the details in section 4 before returning an item, so we can confirm the return address and process. You are responsible for return shipping costs except where the return is due to our error or a fault in the book (section 1.3). We recommend an insured, trackable shipping method, as we cannot be responsible for items lost or damaged in transit back to us.
1.5 Refund timing
Once we receive and inspect the returned book, we will process your refund to the original payment method within 14 business days.
2. Digital Books (Ebooks)
Because digital titles are delivered instantly and can be copied once downloaded, refunds for ebook purchases are limited to the following situations:
- The file is corrupted, incomplete, or otherwise fails to open or function correctly.
- You were charged for a title you did not receive access to, due to a technical or processing error on our part.
- The wrong title or edition was delivered.
Except in these situations, ebook purchases are non-refundable once the file has been downloaded or accessed, consistent with the position under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act for digital content that has already been accessed with the consumer’s consent. If you haven’t yet downloaded or accessed the file, contact us within 7 days of purchase and we will process a full refund.
3. International Orders
International orders may be subject to import duties, taxes, or customs charges levied by the destination country, which are your responsibility and not included in our prices. Delivery times for physical books may be extended for international orders. Where a physical return is required from outside South Africa, you are responsible for return shipping and any related customs charges unless the return is due to our error or a fault in the book.
4. Manuscript Submissions
Manuscript submissions are not purchases and are not covered by this policy. Full submission terms are set out in our Submission Guidelines and Waiver at strathdonpress.com/submission-guidelines
